What's New With Small Animal Vaccines
Since the development of the first canine
distemper vaccine over half a century ago, vaccines for dogs and cats have
saved innumerable pets from disease and death. Over the years we've been able
to add to the number of serious infectious diseases from which we can help
protect your pets. Unfortunately, while vaccines help protect your pets from
disease, there is risk. In our continuing commitment to provide high quality
care to your pets, Marsh View Veterinary Clinic is proud to inform you that we
are changing some of our vaccines to offer your pets the latest in vaccine
technology.
One of the changes for your
cats is that we will be using fewer vaccines with adjuvants. Adjuvants are
substances needed by some vaccines to ensure a protective immune response.
Unfortunately, adjuvants can present potential risks including injection site
reactions and chronic inflammation. Thanks to innovative vaccine technologies,
most of the vaccines we will now be offering your cats do not contain any
adjuvants. We are also utilizing
the latest in recombinant vaccine technology for your dogs. The recombinant canine distemper
vaccine helps provide early protection to your puppies and helps effectively
booster your adult dog's immune system. The recombinant Lyme vaccine we offer
contains only the protein needed to help provide protection and, like the
vaccines for your cats, does not contain adjuvants. At Marsh View Veterinary
Clinic, we always make recommendations with your pet's interest in mind. That
includes which vaccines and vaccine technology we offer. Your pets deserve
nothing less!
